College Romance

What with Chinese New Year and everything, it’s been a while since we had a Malay wedding, hasn’t it? Here are some lovely pictures from the wedding album of Nadia and Afif…

First up, some mandatory shots of the bride getting ready. Love how the photographer caught her goofing off in the mirror with the groom right behind her.

Tip: Ladies, it all comes down to the shoes ;)

This is what you call a tender moment.

Love story: Nadia and Afif first met in college. During an activity in which students were divided according to birth dates, these two found themselves in the same group. Get this – their birth dates are only a day apart!

Talk about your modern woman… Apparently, Afif was so shy that Nadia had to ask for his number *like* (more…)

The Word On Remarriage

25 Jan

Tying the knot again comes with its own bag of issues to tend to – and it’s worth keeping this in mind as you plan your new future together, as the second time round is often not any easier. It’s a lot of work unraveling the intricacies of a remarriage and how to get through it together…

Let bygones be bygones

Whatever your past relationship or marriage was – however it started and ended – ultimately it has to be completely dead and done for before you even consider starting anew. Still, it does get harder to let things go as we grow older. We over-analyze our mistakes and end up too paralyzed in fear to move forward.

Just remember the valuable lessons you have learned – and carry on with your life.

One with the family

As partners and parents, we have been juggling our roles to ensure the smooth operation of the family unit. Unfortunately, when a marriage ends – especially when there are children involved – a new marriage can never truly begin unless you find a way to be comfortable with one role without the other.

First, you can start by learning how to trust your children, sharing with them in entirety the hows and whys involved in the decision to embark on this new journey of yours. Encourage and allow them to take part in it with you, not just as someone coming along for the ride.

Grow with others

If it gets too much, why not try to seek help and advice from relatives or friends who have gone through the throes of remarriage? While it might be a touchy subject for some, many would be happy to help a friend or relative in need.

Get together and ask them for ideas to solve problems you are stumped on; a fresh perspective often helps. Also, having gone through similar issues themselves, they should readily understand. Make a list of things bugging you the most and go through it with them. (more…)

Guide To The Chic Chinoiserie Wedding

24 Jan

Here at WGA, we’re well aware that everyone’s probably still very much in the Chinese New Year mood (Well, at least I know I am!). So, we’ve decided to write a little feature on how to have a fabulous chinoiserie wedding!

Chinoise what? Just in case you were wondering, chinoiserie is (originally) French for an object or decoration reflecting Chinese qualities or motifs. If you’re planning a spring wedding or a party pertaining to Asian cultures or travel, well you’re in luck! Here are some ideas of ways to incorporate a little chinoiserie chic into your wedding.

Cherry blossom icing? Talk about yum! The cake topper translates to “Double Happiness,” an auspicious Chinese blessing. And of course, no Chinese wedding tea ceremony can ever be complete without an heirloom tea set…

Chinoiserie programs, anyone? Come on, you gotta love the DIY Chinese frog buttons! The jars could be filled with scrumptious little treats, like macadamias, rock candy or even Jelly Bellies!

Don’t you just hate it when you have to chuck away your wedding decorations when the party is over? Here’s a tip: always be on the lookout for fun, functional and reusable wedding decor. Chinoiserie-inspired plates and dividers are a couple of good ideas! (more…)
