A Feng Shui wedding
26 Oct
Savvy bridal couples are wising up to the importance of feng shui on their all-important day and it’s understandable why. If you’re investing a fortune on your wedding and your marital future, it makes sense to help that along with as many auspicious elements as possible. Whilst you may not want to shell out for a feng shui master, some simple tips can go a long way towards ensuring a propitious life together.
According to wedding feng shui author Ellen Whitehurst, good lighting in the reception area is vital for a bright and prosperous future, whilst clocks should be banned as your marriage should be timeless. If you’re planning a Chinese wedding and you don’t intend to go the traditional red cheongsam route, make sure you avoid bright white as white is the colour of mourning and death. Do also enlist your bridal party to advise guests to eschew black and white in their attire for that same reason.
Whilst rice grains symbolise fertility and have been an integral part of weddings since time began, Whitehurst suggests the simple — and fun! — alternative of bubble liquid for guests to blow at the bridal couple as they leave the reception. By doing so, guests are imbuing the ceremony with water, which is a calming element, and augurs well for a peaceful future for the bridal couple. She also suggests incorporating the saying “something borrowed, something blue” into a single element. Borrow something blue (the colour symbolises serenity) from someone with a good marriage, as the person’s solid foundations will give good energy to you on your special day.
However, if you want to make sure you’re as auspicious as possible – consult a Feng Shui master. Try either Joey Yap or Lillian Too, who are both top Malaysian Feng Shui gurus! Should they not fit into your budget, remember that they have many ‘disciples’ under their wing who can also assist you and at cheaper rates.

I went to one wedding where the Double Happiness sign fell down halfway through dinner! Needless to say, everyone went silent haha.
But the couple are still married…!
