Latest Goldilocks collection from ‘Gold & Silver’ jewellers (it’s xmas girls!)
26 Nov
So here’s the thing. If I’m not out and about, I’m online 24/7 looking for great articles and topics to write for The Wedding Guide. One fine day, after posting our interview with former Channel V VJ Sarah Tan… I noticed some photos on her Facebook wall of her with some very cool necklaces. After a dose of google stalking, I found out that her jewellery was part of the newly launched Goldilocks collection by “Gold & Silver” in Singapore. I quickly contacted the owner and found out that they not only have an amazing range of diamonds and jewels, but also run an online portal called ‘More than Diamonds’ where they sell to clients from Europe to Asia. Chris Lim, the director of marketing for “Gold & Silver” was kind enough to chat with TWG on all things shiny and nice!
“Gold & Silver” started all the way back in 1946. Personally, I love nothing more than a brand with a history and story – do share.
People new to our company don’t realize that Gold & Silver is a jeweller with over 60 years’ retail experience. After 22 years of being a retailer in the Paragon, we are now taking it to the next level – with an exclusive showroom on Orchard Road, backed by a leading web portal and e shop for fine jewellery.
We have been cornerstone jewellers in Singapore since 1946. My grandfather established the company, and my parents continued to grow the business over the next decades. In a way, jewellery has always been in my blood (so to speak:), but it wasn’t a set path. I have been interested in many other creative avenues, all of which have led me back to jewellery. I’m blessed in a sense I guess, being able to transfer all my skills and experience back into the family business.
Tell us about the team behind “G & S”. What’s your role?
Together with my talented creative partner (and fiancée) Sara, we are steering the brand and website to echo our new and innovative style of jewellery design. Sara’s father is from Penang, and mother from Finland, but she grew up in Sweden. Through her influence, we are merging Scandinavian minimalism with Asian precision. There is a new generation of jewellery buyers, and our products excite both the young urbanite and the mature cosmopolitan.
You’ve just launched an amazing collection called Goldilocks. How did you guys come up with the idea of creating handwritten names?
We are constantly pushing the boundaries of new, interesting jewellery.
Goldilocks™ was born during a brainstorm at about 3am on a coffee break at Mister Prata, sometime late last year. Handwritten and hand bent, it is a unique combination and a marriage of individual skills and ideas from the two creators. The handwriting style, which customers have described as ambiguous and abstract, has been well received by our customers. Each name or word that is written for Goldilocks™ is made to suit the character and age of the customer. We do not have a specific way of writing each letter – it depends on the combination in the name and the customer’s input. We have sold pieces for newborn babies, that their mothers wear until their children are old enough to take over; husband’s buying for wives, friends buying for each other, mothers buying for their daughters and so on.
How does the Goldilocks collection appeal to brides & their entourage? Also, what price range are we looking at?
Goldilocks™ is easy to customize and because of the personal touch, it is very popular with wedding couples. Like a message in a bottle, customers have made necklaces with their initials, terms of endearment, as well as line drawings. We even had a customer who made Goldilocks™ necklaces for all her bridesmaids!
The price of Goldilocks depends on the name and word that you are making, Prices start at SGD350 for a pendant and SGD550 for a necklace. Customers can also add diamonds to their creations. For full price list, please go to our online store.

Lastly, a question for the men out there who are looking to buy an engagement ring for their lovely girlfriends – what would you recommend? How does one choose!
Buying an engagement ring is a big step and you want to be sure to make the right choice.
Firstly, set a budget for yourself, and do research on what you can find within that range. Tiffany’s coined the idea of using your 3 months salary as a gauge.
Secondly, try to find out what she likes. See what she normally wears and be attentive on jewelery that she admires in magazines and shop-windows. Round Diamonds, set in a 6-claw setting are a classic. However, other diamonds shapes and settings are increasingly popular.
