Forget location, it’s decoration, decoration, decoration!

23 Apr

You’ve got the right dress, the right hotel, the right photographer (and hopefully groom!) – but when it comes down to it – have you really got it… right? You could be the most beautiful bride but if your venue is looking plain and tardy; don’t expect that million dollar photo. For the perfect wedding, you need all the chess pieces in place. So here are some photos that we think will send some inspiration and colour your way…

simple-red-theme
If you’re a DIY bride, try opting for simple colour themes or you’ll bridezilla yourself out.  In the above pic, the bride has chosen a simple red theme. A bit of red on the menu, red flowers in the middle and a single red rose on the plate is just as effective as spending tons of dosh on a huge bouquet.

Don’t forget, less is more.

Conventional
For something more traditional and contemporary, you can’t go wrong with your whites, silver and gold. Rather than going for contrast, these weddings have chose similar colours that complement and blend into eachother. Do check with your reception venue if they have chairs available that match your theme. If they only have the standard ones, think outside the box and try decorating the chairs. For example, if you’re using gold as your main colour, wrap the chairs around with gold or cream ribbon sashes. I must say, that I do love a white wedding though (oh, just like Ivanka! And Billy Idol..).

Raise-the-red-lantern
If you’ve got a beautiful, colonial-type setting as the wedding above (think Carcosa in K.L or Raffles Hotel in SG), then have a play with the lighting. I absolutely love how they’ve incorporated the red lanterns here. It gives it a very regal and majestic feel… I’m quite the dreamer so have always had the idea of a magical wedding that plays on the imagination. *Sigh*, shall we all be a princess for the day!

Night-and-day
Don’t forget the little people and don’t forget the little bits of decoration! It’s the small things that can add the finishing touch. Such as placing bouquets on the side of the church benches. Or for the evening, lanterns and candles create a note of romanticism. Things like lanterns aren’t costly; you can easily source for them around markets or bazaars, as bear in mind guests aren’t going to analyse them in detail (one would hope!).

Good luck ladies! And remember this rule of thumb: Choose your theme first and then your venue!

You can dress up a venue, but you can’t knock the walls down…

I really love the red chinese lanterns. Somehow it enhances the romantic feel by invoking feelings of nostalgia.

You are right in saying that decoration is more important that a wedding venue. Who cares if you book a hall in the grandest hotel in town, but looks vanilla plain and decorated like a corporate function, or like an overgrown version of a child’s birthday party?
