Top ten wedding songs by Da Funkie Junkie!
7 Apr

Touted as one of Kuala Lumpur’s ‘weddings of the year’, Donovan Tho (Da Funkie Junkie) and Julia Nicholson’s wedding no doubt had the recipe for the perfect reception. With a too cool-for-school 60s theme, guestlist of the who’s who and a venue at a top hotel and nightclub; it was definitely going to be a night to remember.
But before we upload all the picturesque photos, here’s a list of the chosen wedding songs!
After all, as one of Malaysia’s top house DJs who played everywhere from Miami to London, Da Funkie Junkie should know a thing or two about hitting that right ‘note’!
By the way, Donovan requested that I pick my top three. So please scroll down – my favourites are the songs with videos attached!
1) “Sea of love” – Phil Phillips (1959)
This was our march in song for the wedding. This version is the original. It’s our song.
2) “Here, there and everywhere” – The Beatles (1966)
One of Paul McCartney’s masterpieces, from my favourite Beatles album, “Revolver”. As gentle as a white dove. As beautiful as Julia, my love.
3) “C’est si bon” – Rhoda Scott (1976)
Describes the way I feel when I’m with Julia. “C’est Si Bon”, translated in English means “It’s so good”….my point exactly.
4) “Love” – John Lennon (1970)
John Lennon’s genius is apparent in his wordplay. We will definitely be in the same band, writing lyrics and melodies together in heaven and/or the next life.
5) “Woman” – John Lennon (1981)
Everything a man would want to say to the woman he’s in love with.
6) “Til there was you” – The Beatles (1963)
I think of Julia when I listen to this. Beautiful and perfect, just like her.
7) “Could it be I’m falling in love” – The Spinners (1972)
The lyrics articulate exactly how I felt the first time I laid my eyes on her. Astro Boy meets Cosmic Girl.
8) “I’m gonna make you love me” – Diana Ross & The Supremes feat The Temptations (1968)
Goosepimples galore. Just close your eyes, fantasise.
9) “Sleep Walk” – Santo & Johnny (1959)
One of our favourite ALL TIME instrumentals. Truly emotional. Nary a dry eye in the house.
10) “Soulful strut” – Young Holt Unlimited (1968)
Makes us feel like we’re up in a hot air balloon, sipping champagne, with the sun warming our hearts.

Sleepwalk is beautiful! Are these songs in line with the theme I suppose? We’re doing a vintage wedding. Any suggestions!
I agree Steph – Sea of Love is sweet!!
Yup, Sea of Love is my favourite!
I like Cat Power’s version better.
Of which song?
Sea of Love……from the soundtrack of the film, Juno…..
Cool list…
Very nice selection! You have a pretty wife too.
Hey! Just wanted to say good site. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Heather!
