Supermodel Amber Chia on her Bali wedding & surprise pregnancy!
17 May

I first heard that Amber was getting married when I was down in Australia last month visiting family and friends. My father, ever the avid reader of The Star Online, was actually the one who told me “Hey! Your friend Amber is married. Who to??” to which I replied “Err, no idea!”. A few press releases later and it was revealed that the lucky man was her long-time friend and manager Adrian Wong. Much respect to Amber for keeping things on the down-low and keeping mum when silly rumours of her dating ‘so and so’ were rife.
Last week, Amber made headlines again but this time for announcing that she was newly pregnant! So it was perfect timing that I bumped into the couple at the recent Adidas Street party. In between trying to dance with some b-bop dudes, I managed to squeeze in an interview with Amber & Adrian on their secret wedding in Bali and her secret baby bump!
How, when, why!
AC: Haha, we’ve been dating quietly for about 2 years now. But before that we were friends for quite awhile and then I don’t know – it just happened!
So tell us who made that ‘first move’?
AW: Hmm I can’t remember, I don’t think anyone really did – just one day we suddenly realised we felt something for eachother. We knew one another for about 5 years before anything happened…
And the proposal?
AC: It was in Bali as well! That’s why we decided to have the wedding there too.
AW: I had it all planned out. There were candles in the room and a ring hidden under the bedsheets. She was meant to hop into the shower but this Amber was so tired from the day… that she jumped straight into the bed and under covers! Dirty girl (haha)!
AC: Then I saw the ring under covers and I said “Ok lah! I’ll marry you!!”
So what do you like about eachother? Besides the fact she’s a Malaysian supermodel…
AC: I like Adrian’s dimples.
AW: I like Amber’s ‘English’… Hahaha… well, seriously… we just click. The real ‘Amber’ is actually a bit of a klutz who always makes me laugh. She is my humble, small town girl.
Most men would love to date a supermodel but when it comes down to it – you have to be pretty confident guy.
How has life been thus far?
AW: I’m a low profile kinda guy but of course as her husband I have to be flexible and accept the press attention that comes with it. It’s very new to me but I’m coping okie!
On the wedding:
Location: Diwangkara Holiday Villa Resort in Bali
Wedding gown: Keith Kee
Shoes: Flats (Amber cheekily remarks “Adrian is not that tall lah!”)
Hair: Centro Salon. Adrian actually wanted ‘white hair’ to follow the theme but it unfortunately it turned orange!
Photographer: Alan from The Photoz
Bridesmaids: Amber’s sister and niece
Groomsmen: None! Adrian was happy on his own.

Honeymoon: The Gold Coast!
And now for a change of topic. Let’s talk babies! How did you feel when you found out you were pregnant?
AC: Both of us were very happy and excited, we believe this is a miracle baby and a gift from God. So excited that I will soon be a mother.
Obviously, the honeymoon worked wonders!! Were you planning for a baby or was this a surprise?
AC: I have always wanted to have my own child, so this is a dream come true. We have been working hard every night for it. Ha… Ha…. Of course we were surprised, as we didn’t expect it!!! Ha… Ha…
How do you feel about being pregnant and everything that comes with it?
AC: I believe even while I’m pregnant, I can still be a ‘perfect 10′ pregnant woman, a supermum. I will continue to work hard at looking my best even as my tummy grows each day. I think pregnant women are one of the most beautiful creations of God. Moreover, Adrian pampers me even more now, because of my mood swings! However, at the same time I have also learned to control my emotions.
Because you were busy modeling, you couldn’t attend university. Would you allow your child to do the same?
AC: I started modeling when I was 17 because my family could not afford to send me to school and furthermore, it was also my dream to be a model. However, in the future, when my child grows up, I will definitely encourage them to finish their studies before pursuing their dreams as I have discovered, that is one area I wish I had more exposure to. I think whatever their dreams may be, I will fully support my children in them.
One baby down, how many more would you like?
AC: The ultimate will be to have a boy and a girl.
Kate, Cindy & Elle have all had babies and are still model moguls. Should we expect to see you at work soon?
AC: Definitely. No one will be able to hold me back. I love modeling. If designers and clients still want me, I definitely will not say no. I love my work, and I am absolutely passionate about it. Even if there are offers for a pregnant lady to run the catwalk, I don’t think I can say no. So don’t worry, I will still be seen at events, photo-shoots and on the catwalk. Perhaps for a different set of clients, i.e. maternity wear, family products, etc., but I will be there. Haha.
Thanks for the interview and big congrats to A & A for their nuptials and the baby in the golden carriage. If you’d like to find out more about Amber, simply click here.
