There’s no better way to celebrate a bride-to-be than with a bridal shower. Preparing a bridal shower isn’t that impossible a task if you get good advice and help from people who know their stuff, but where do you start?

1. Get crafty!

Plan an arts-and-crafts project to break the ice especially if you’re one who hangs out with artistic crowds. Stock up on Play-Doh, paper, finger paint, and collage materials for all of your guests and brace yourself for some big fun!

2. Mind your manners.

The idea here is to have your guests answer extremely hilarious wedding etiquette questions. Write a wedding etiquette question on each index card — the more outrageous the scenario, the better. Think of some nuptial nightmares like: What do you do if the best man accidentally trips the bride? If two groomsmen get involved in a brawl at the altar? If you see the groom’s uncle stealing a couple of wine bottles from the underground cellar?

Hand out one etiquette card to each guest and have her write down an honest response to the situation. Then, have the bridal party gather all the cards and read the questions and answers aloud.

Whatever your past relationship or marriage was – however it started and ended – ultimately it has to be completely dead and done for before you even consider starting anew. Still, it does get harder to let things go as we grow older. We over-analyze our mistakes and end up too paralyzed in fear to move forward.

Just remember the valuable lessons you have learned – and carry on with your life.

One with the family

As partners and parents, we have been juggling our roles to ensure the smooth operation of the family unit. Unfortunately, when a marriage ends – especially when there are children involved – a new marriage can never truly begin unless you find a way to be comfortable with one role without the other.

First, you can start by learning how to trust your children, sharing with them in entirety the hows and whys involved in the decision to embark on this new journey of yours. Encourage and allow them to take part in it with you, not just as someone coming along for the ride.

Grow with others

If it gets too much, why not try to seek help and advice from relatives or friends who have gone through the throes of remarriage? While it might be a touchy subject for some, many would be happy to help a friend or relative in need.

Get together and ask them for ideas to solve problems you are stumped on; a fresh perspective often helps. Also, having gone through similar issues themselves, they should readily understand. Make a list of things bugging you the most and go through it with them.
