Symphony In Peach

28 Jun

It’s a double post this Tuesday with WGA reader Jaja Anuar, who despite holding down a full-time job with one of Malaysia’s top fashion magazines, GLAM, managed to plan her solemnization and wedding in just six months. This DIY bride kept it a family affair by marrying her beau, Ahmad Mustaffa, at her parents’ place in Subang Jaya, where they had a pretty pastel-themed akad nikah.

The great thing about working in the fashion industry is that you get to know some of the best people in the business! For her hair and make-up, make-up artist Chot gave her a soft smokey eye that went well with the gentle waves in her hair that was pulled to the side.

And if you’re loving Jaja’s classic & elegant baju kurung, it was created by designer Syaiful Baharim, who also tailored Ahmad’s baju melayu.

At the solemnization, vows are recited with the Imam and there is an exchange of gifts called the hantaran. Altogether there were 11 trays of gifts from Jaja to Ahmad and 9 from him to her (now that’s a lot of gift buying;)

Instead of a typical cake-cutting ceremony, Jaja kept it traditional by cutting pulut kuning that was made by her grandma. (more…)

Portraits Of A Nikah

20 Dec

Welcome to the wedding of Nathan and Ayu! Now, this was one greatly anticipated album. The couple had seen the magic of Stories by Integricity Visuals a long time ago at their friends’ wedding, so when they decided to tie the knot, they wasted no time with the booking. In fact, Nathan sent the wedding programme to Grace months ahead of time!

I must say, I think the groom and his men look great in baju Melayu. Then again, I’ve always had a fondness for baju Melayu and baju kurung :-)

I love this idea – take one material, make five totally different dresses and let everyone’s individuality shine through!

I don’t know about you, but I can almost sense how nervous these two are ;-)

The moment of truth!

I rather like these portraits…

Check it out – Nathan’s wearing henna too! Never mind if the design is nowhere near as intricate as his wife’s… (more…)

A beautiful Malay wedding

19 Oct

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always loved attending weddings – be it a personal friend’s or as someones partner. And why not? A wedding has to be one of the best moments in the lifecycle of a relationship. It’s that pivotal moment where two come together and make that huge commitment of ‘forever and ever’. Well, I recently attended the wedding of two close friends who tied the knot after going out for nearly ten years. It was romantic, touching and I must say whenever I see them now… there’s a certain extra loving glow about the two!

As they are a very private couple (limited profile for all their FB friends!), I can’t say who they are or post pics with them in it. They’ve however very kindly allowed TWG to show photos of their decor and theme. As it was a Malay wedding, we had the akad nikah (signing of the marriage contract) in the morning, followed by makan beradab (lunch reception) in The Westin’s ballroom. This went on till about 3 pm, whereafter everyone went home to rest until the evening ‘party’ at Luna Bar! I hope you enjoy these photos that were taken by Fiona from Fifoto.

Once the akad nikah is completed (they really do actually sign a contract!), the bersanding ceremony follows. Here guests must shower the couple with rice and scented water, to signify a blessing to the couple. Though I can’t show you a photo of that, you can see the pelamin or dais that they had made for the special day.

The overall theme was a colour palette of aubergine, platinum and lilac. I do like what The Westin did with the flower arrangements below and must say I love the lilac baju kebaya worn by the bridesmaids. By the way, can you spot Miss Deborah Henry in the pic above!
