Annasul Y Says Hello To 2012

2 Feb

The best of British fashion is back with a vengeance! We are so loving Annasul Y’s latest collection – and what we love even more is the fact that it’s available right here on home turf, thanks to WGA vendor Designer Bridal Room

This line is clearly for the elegant woman who knows how to have fun in the classiest way possible. It’s vintage and unique and perhaps just a little bit eccentric, yet so sensual and feminine.

Notice how the light fabric keeps it all flirty – totally unexpected with such demure designs. And how can you not like the layers and layers of alluring lace ;) (more…)

Lusan Mandongus At Designer Bridal Room

15 Dec

Originally based in Hong Kong, Lusan Mandongus first made its name in 1991 with the most glamorous and graceful bridal gowns this side of Asia. Ten years later, they decided to take on the world, introducing the brand to Japan and the UK. It wasn’t long before they had the attention of the US, Europe, and the Middle East – and now their wedding dresses are available worldwide. And that includes Malaysia, thanks to Designer Bridal Room.

Lusan Mandongus’ 2012 collection is all about romance and femininity, highlighting the sophistication of vintage glamour. The designs hint at oriental elements, and are both prominent and unique. We especially love the fluidity of the materials – hello, curves – and how it all comes together so sensual and timeless.

5 Mins With Designer Celest Thoi From MIFA

9 Dec

Celest with her two daughters and Miss Malaysia Universe Deborah Henry

Just recently, Malaysia International Fashion week (MIFA) was held in Kuala Lumpur. This meant lots of models, champagne, fashionistas (fighting for the front row), designers and press clamouring to get in to the best shows.

Yours truly managed to get an invite to Celest Thoi’s debut with her amazing wedding line. As usual, I was a bit late and albeit hoping it was fashionable was initially not allowed in! Why so? Because unknown to me, a member of royalty was already inside and apparently no one was allowed to enter. Thanks to some nudging (and maybe WGA muscle?!), we managed to convince the bouncers to let us in and have a seat.

Was it worth it? Definitely. Here at WGA we think Celest will make her mark in the Malaysian bridal scene this coming year!

With many bridal boutiques out there, how do you distinguish yourself from the rest?

I guess the direction of my style remains pretty much the same after all these years as I work on the philosophy of timeless, simplicity and elegance for all of my designs. Every Celest Thoi gown is beautifully hand-crafted with luxurious fabrics, ethereal detailing and a modern interpretation of classic lines. I want brides who wear my designs to still love the dress many years down memory lane.

Many girls dream of being the bride, but only a few dream of working in the industry. What was your calling?

Well, it was definitely one of the many things I aspired to do when I was younger. Like all little girls, I loved doodling, making crafts and playing dress-up. I get attracted to pretty things from bugs to lights. I love going to shops that sell trimmings, ribbons, buttons etc. And I can spend hours looking around, hoping to buy them all! I love working with these pretty things coupled with gorgeous fabrics and also, the fact that I work with very happy and excited people…it makes me feel happy and fulfillled at the same time.

You’ve got two gorgeous daughters. How do you juggle both?

I am very blessed to have a very supportive husband and family who are there for my kids when I am busy with work. I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you!

We’re loving all the pics from your MIFA show, what was it like to walk down the runway? (more…)

Back To Black With Vera Wang

1 Nov

Yay or nay?

Vera Wang is back and this time it’s all about the colour black.

In her latest showcase at NY Bridal Fashion Week, Vera got people talking as her models strut down the catwalk in perhaps the most unlikely bridal colour of all – black. Not that a black wedding gown is an entirely new concept. Apparently, it was an equally popular choice before Queen Victoria (trendsetter of trendsetters) decided to get married in white.

So what made Ms Wang do it? “I found black to be fresh and tongue-in-cheek,” the designer said in a telephone interview with The New York Times. “With all the big weddings that happened this year, it was fun to step out of the box.”

And what about the crowd’s reaction?

“It was shocking and outrageous, but it was also fabulous,” said Mark Ingram, the owner of the Mark Ingram Bridal Atelier in Manhattan. “It was bold, but it also made me pay attention to the details all that more carefully.”

I personally feel it’s not as sombre as one would automatically assume. Vera has successfully balanced the style with clever little tricks such as sheer layering over lighter colours and making the most of airy, floaty fabrics – and the result is fabulous. (more…)

The Pronovias Bride

28 Oct

I don’t know about you but we here at WGA we sure are excited to hear about the new Pronovias 2012 collection coming soon to Designer Bridal Room. This year, they’re highlighting a kaleidoscope of bridal personalities – the couture, the glamorous, the cosmopolitan, and the dreamy. The result? Well, we certainly love it!

Pronovias creative director, Manuel Mota, was inspired by these women when creating this season’s designs. “You always have to be ready to adapt to each bride’s individual personality and style, playing with very different elements such as a certain bodice, some chiffon trousers or a Jackie O-style shift dress combined with a coat or stole,” he explained.

One of the most fascinating things to watch out for is the continuous evolution of the bridal gown – from the traditional design to clever innovations such as the pre-mermaid waistline; gone are the days when it was unheard of to make a dress fit your personality as well as your body ;) (more…)
