Henry Golding on love, girlfriends & weddings!

Google Henry Golding and you’ll find an accolade of blogs by (female) fans from all over, declaring their ‘undying love (or I should say lust) for Asia’s latest hearttrob. From his early days hosting 8TV’s prime show The Quickie, this British boy has now moved on to the regional stakes as a host on ESPN. So whilst jetsetting here and there, interviewing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and what not, I got Golding to sit down and answer a few questions about love, proposals… and oysters!

So who is Henry Golding?

Well, my mother is from Sarawak and my father is English… and I was born on the island of Borneo but grew up for the most part in Surrey, England. I always found learning in classroom environments a little tedious so as soon as I finished my GCSE’s at the age of 16. I found a calling as a hairdresser and as luck has it, was accepted to work in an amazing salon in a prestigious part of London, Sloane Square. But after moving up to London and spending about 5 years in the industry, I felt the need to spread my wings a little. I always thought that it would be such a shame if I went through life with just the one story and didn’t venture to other possibilities. After working behind the scenes in television, doing hair, I was extremely excited to try my luck in front of the camera. On top of that, I thought that I would love to live somewhere completely new and different, hence the move to KL! So I booked a one-way ticket, packed a bag I was on my way!

The rest is history as they say…

Sarah Tan & hubby Soo Kui Jien

Sarah Tan & hubby Soo Kui Jien at a recent event in SG

She graced the silver screens for many years as one of Channel V’s hot VJs and then broke many hearts around the region when she decided to settle down and tie the knot. TV Host/ model and all-round nice girl Sarah Tan turned her back on the life of glamour for stage 2 of life, love and family. Last year, she gave birth to her son, Dylan, and now happily resides in Singapore with her hubby, Soo Kui Jien (ESPN & former Disney channel host). I asked Sarah about her new world and she kindly gave us her honest thoughts on weddings, marriage & baby Dylan.

You grew up in Singapore and Jien in Malaysia. So why did you guys get married in Bali? Neutral territory?:)
When I found out I was pregnant, Jien was actually in Bali for work. So we thought it would be appropriate to also have the wedding there!

The wedding in Bali was for close family and friends

Did you use a wedding planner since it was all the way in Bali?

We didn’t, I planned it from Singapore myself! I was aiming to keep everything simple and relaxed but I don’t think even a simple wedding is stress free. So I think I’ll go with a wedding planner next time! ;)

Any wedding tips?

Try not to stress out over the details, most of your guests won’t notice.

Well, you’re happily settled with hubby and baby in tow. But they do say marriage isn’t easy? Yay or nay?

It’s true. It’s not easy, especially in the first year. I had a bit of an identity crisis in my first year… what with losing my job, getting married and having a baby all in one go. After a while though, I managed to find a healthy balance between being a wife, mother and me. It’s hard work in the beginning but once you get the hand of it – it’s brilliant!

The grand finale!

The grand finale!

As you all know, last week was MIFA (Malaysia International Fashion week), which turned Pavillion mall into a mad hub full of the who’s who, fashionistas, divas, models and media. The Wedding Guide was the online partner for one of the few bridal showcases, ‘The Celestial Collection’ featuring Pretty in White by Celest Thoi. I was also invited to be the emcee that day and albeit a few nerves here and there (the crowd was packed!), I think the show was a huge success!

How would you describe your design style Celest?
I like my style to be simple and elegant… something that will accentuate the figure well. Celestial gowns (our premier range) are made with handmade detailing and embellished with Swarovski crystallized elements.

Belinda Chee’s wedding invitation

30 Sep

Bel-InviteOkie, this might not be mine (unfortunately I’ve misplaced it!), but here is a friend’s invitation to the lovely 8TV Quickie host Belinda Chee’s wedding. For privacy purposes we’ve had to blur out some digits but I wanted to post this up because it’s a very refined and classic invite. I do like the use of gold and the scattered sakura flowers (don’t you think they look like hibiscus flowers a bit?). Remember, invites can be anything you want them to be – fun, elegant or wacky even. When it comes to cost, the rule of thumb is the more paper (such as a card that opens) and colour you use drives up the price.

Congratulations again Belinda! Oh, and to Joe too :)

It’s all in the eyes…
