Winter Wonderland

We’ve always found winter to be such a magical season, so it is a little sad that we don’t have four seasons in this country. But of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t have your very own white wonderland do! Read on for our guide to planning a winter-themed wedding…

Invitations

These should be somewhat rustic in appearance. We’re thinking holly-shaped invites and woodsy save-the-date cards. Resist the temptation to go all sparkly – you don’t want an invitation that looks like it fell out of a snowglobe.

Flowers

Our bouquet of choice? A collection of ivory ranunculus, parrot tulips, and anemones, with accents of lamb’s ears, blooming cotton sprigs, and tiny tallow-berry branches. Or maybe you could even consider a bouquet of white gardenias and looped grosgrain ribbon to match your bridal gown. Wrap the stems in vintage trim and we’re good to go.

Centerpieces

Try manzanita branches accented with wrapped vases of ivory garden roses, fringed tulips, ranunculus, tallow-berry branches, and cotton. What you want to do is bring the simple beauty of the great outdoors into the elegant reception.

Looking for something more? While we’re on the subject of branches, a birch branch makes for a simple escort-card holder that echoes your reception’s naturally sophisticated vibe. (more…)

It’s Out Of The Box

28 Nov

Everybody loves a good conversation piece, although it is getting harder and harder to find new things to make your celebration truly memorable. It’s as if almost everyone has had fireworks at some point or other, and we’re now searching for the next big WOW, or at the very least an OOH CUTE! Smiles and nods just don’t cut it ;)

Looking for something fresh to add to your do? Our good friend Leticia Hsu of Elysium Weddings kindly shares with us a few interesting additions, hot off some recent weddings…

The Ang Pau Box

Now this is something that’s both pretty and practical. If you’re tired of the same-old-same-old guest book (and especially if you’ve successfully hinted to your guests that you’d rather have traditional ang pau instead of toasters) you could consider setting up a lovely ang pau table, complete with a drop-box and stationery for wedding wishes. Sweet.

My Cake’s Cooler Than Your Cake

Now there are so many ways to play around with the wedding cake and this has got to be one of the cutest we’ve seen. Not one for cupcakes on a tray? Arrange them on a matching base to look like a cake! And if you insist on having something for all to see you cut, have an actual cake as the bottom layer. Just make sure there’s plenty to go around!

Candy Kingdom Come

Not many people can say no to a good dose of sweetness, which means a well-stocked candy bar is always a sight for sore eyes (or hungry tummies). Say “Trick or Treat!” ^_^ (more…)

Introducing Garden Of Senses

27 Jun

WGA welcomes a new addition to our family of wedding vendors! Say hello to Jacqie Oh from Garden Of Senses, one of Kuala Lumpur’s premier florists. We managed to steal a bit of Jacqie’s time for a quick Q&A…

How did you get started in this business?
After many years working abroad, I decided to come back for good. Not knowing exactly what I wanted to do, I just wanted to take a break. Then I came across this flower arrangement course online, which caught my interest. So I enrolled myself! I found it really fun and proceeded to learn as much as I could about floral design through classes and workshops by designers from all over the world till today!

Exactly what services do you offer?
From little hand bouquets to everyday flowers, like floral stands & basket arrangements, corporate events to wedding flower needs, these are the services we offer.

What is the strongest inspiration behind your floral arrangements?
I always believe in passion to create gifts that express individual thoughts.

What was your most memorable order?
An exclusive wedding event at KL Hilton, which was very successful – both the bride and groom took pride in what was the tallest table centerpiece (10ft in height) I’ve ever designed!

What’s the best part of your job?
Besides being surrounded by gorgeous fresh flowers all the time, the best part is to see the many surprised and happy faces of my clients at the end of the day!

Any advice for our brides-to-be?
Do not underestimate what a great floral arrangement can do for your big day. Set a budget so your florist will be able to work within a realistic budget. Start early to look for a good florist so you’ll have sufficient time to discuss your needs with them.

Can You Candle It?

20 Jan

The traditional candle may have found a new enemy with the discovery of electricity and the invention of the light bulb (Thanks a lot, Edison). And yet many remain loyal because – let’s face it – there are some things you just can’t beat ;-) Candles have a special romance that’s all their own and we know you’re going to want some of that for your big day…

Decorative Light

Oh my, where do I begin? The possibilities are endless! You could have candles along the aisle all the way to the altar. Use them as centerpieces, with or without accompanying flowers. Dress up your guestbook table. Light up the garden without flipping a switch. Put them in candelabras, float them in bowls of water, cover them with hurricane glasses, stick them in sandbags, jam jars, your wedding cake – anything, really. Especially if you’re planning on an evening, outdoor ceremony, trust us – the candles are a must.

A colourful idea from More Than Light

Originality

Want something unique? Check out these rainbow flames from More Than Light. They use coloured oils in glass jars, and you can even opt for similar lamp versions instead. Jazz up your reception and choose the colours that go with your wedding theme. Cute – we loike :)

Scented Candle Tins by Lily Flame

Scent-sational

My first scented candle was a gift from my sister-in-law. One whiff and I was hooked. I can’t imagine the sensual and romantic impact of an entire hall filled with scented candles. You could even consult an aromatherapist on the best fragrances to perfume your reception with, as we know different scents have varying effects on people. Of course, there are no-brainer options – such as the sweet-smelling creations from Lily Flame. (more…)

Cheap & Chic Deco From IKEA

28 Sep

Bent on having these centerpieces at your wedding but not sure where to get them? For an affordable range of quality products, hands down, the best place to go to is IKEA.

Growing up, IKEA was the bee’s knees (still is actually). It was the place where I got into all sorts of memorable hijinks. Whenever I wasn’t swimming in Playland’s pool of balls, I was busy stuffing myself silly with their delectable Daim cakes and RM1 sundae cones. Years later, I still go back to the place and find myself mooning over their furniture.

The price of wedding decorations can really put one down in the doldrums, so here are WGA’s inexpensive picks from IKEA’s 2011 Catalogue:
