Anyone who’s getting wed will send out invites in one form or another. So how do you make yours stand out and leave an impression? Here are some ideas for funky and fresh invites that are perfect for you.

Bite Delights

Why not send your guests something they can eat? If your guest list is primarily people, this option is not impossible. You can send them cookies or cereal treats or even chocolate. For instance, you can send your guests a whole set of chocolate pieces, each with a bit of information regarding your wedding.

So how will your guests find their way once they have enjoyed your invitation treat? Well, do remember to include a note with all the relevant information and also an enclosed map. This also works well if your chosen consumables cannot be easily written on.

Puzzling Pieces

One way to do this is by using an invitation that requires the recipient to actually DO something. An example of this can be jigsaw puzzle invitations that the recipients have to complete themselves.

For a more modern touch, try slider puzzles or even a Rubic cube. Just keep in mind though, the puzzles have to be exciting, yet simple enough that you don’t frustrate your guests with it.

The bride wore red

If you lived in the 1300s, a town crier would stroll down muddied paths and ring a large brass bell to announce your wedding.

Thankfully, times have changed.

Wedding invitations are now used to invite guests to your special day. Luckily for you, we have scoured the globe (it’s a tough job, I know) to bring the best invites from all corners of the earth to your doorstep. Or computer screen. So no matter what kind of wedding you are planning, and no matter where in the world you may be, we’ve found something to suit every bride ; )

It’s A Date Event Design

Every love story is unique, and no two couples are the same. So why not let your invitations represent exactly who you and your other half truly are? It’s A Date Event Design hand-crafts each beautiful invitation in their Melbourne studio, based on your individual style and story. Perfect for the bride who wants to stand out from the crowd!

Above: Both bride and groom were talented writers and music fans, so every invite was hand-crafted from vintage second-hand Mills & Boon romance novels. How romantic ; )
Below: This invitation package represented a love story that spanned many continents, before the happy couple settled in Australia. We love the Aussie passport theme!

Hello! Lucky

Looking for invitations that are not only beautiful but earth-conscious too? Hello! Lucky prints all wedding invites on tree-free paper so you don’t have to worry about harming Mother Earth. We love the fact that Hello! Lucky was started by two half-Chinese sisters who grew up in Asia and are now making a difference with their eco-friendly letter-press invites, on the other side of the globe ; )

Shangri-La
Loving the Marrakesh design (below) that features geometric patterns reminiscent of Islamic architecture – it was originally created for a jewelry designer and world-traveler who was getting married in Switzerland!

WGA’s Top Wedding Invitation Trends

9 Sep

Handing out invitations are an integral part of any wedding planning process. In fact once you have your theme decided upon and number of guests finalised, wedding invitations should be given out, preferably 2-3 months beforehand. Here at WGA, we’ve selected the top invitation trends of the moment for your perusal because we know how difficult it is to choose the perfect invitation!

Simple yet elegant

1. The Traditional Invitation

What better way to start than with the all-time favourite traditional invitation card. This simple card is made up of a single rectangular sheet of white paper with all the details of the nuptials printed on the front in a scripted font. It may seem simple but it’s elegant and very classical.

Flower Power?

2. The Floral Invitation

No no, not 60s flower power themed invitations (unless you have a 60s themed wedding of course!) – this is more like a single pressed flower. If you have decided on the flowers for your wedding then carry that theme forward onto the invitation cards to give the guests a glimpse of what to expect on the big day. These cards can be home-made and lend an eco-friendly feel to the wedding as well. (more…)

Destination Wedding invitations by Ceci New York

If you’re having a destination wedding and at a loss as to how to design your invite then take a look at these luxe invites by Ceci of New York. For couple Tricia & David’s Bermuda destination wedding, they wanted couture invites that “stood out from the rest”. Thus Ceci’s created a series of these deluxe books which detailed the events planned for the weekend.

The ‘Save the Date’ above was nicely designed in sky blue and white to reflect the seaside Bermuda vibe. All the books were “letterpressed with ultra thick paper and ribbon tie closure.” I have always, always been a fan of using ‘ribbons’ as it glams up any wedding invite (Am also persuading Elaine to use a ribbon with hers!). With Destination Weddings, you are dealing with a smaller number of close guests (unless you’re a Mittal!) – thus you can afford to spend more on the invites to impress your friends that are jumping on flights to make your big day. Creating the perfect wedding message

Front of card

The typical wedding usually has a guestbook where family, relatives & friends write best wishes to the bride and groom. Pamelia & Joseph (Pam & Joe!), Kuchingites who recently had their wedding in Bali, did something really different and innovative with these ‘wishing notes’. Each guest was given this special card with these cute questions which they all had to fill out. I especially like the photo frame – I’d wonder how my friends would draw me!!

I’m told by one of the bridesmaids, Joanne Jong, that the lovely bride Pamelia worked extra hard on this and searched all over the net for some novel ideas. Eventually, she found this awesome site here and then took to printing the cards.

Goes to show that a little bit of imagination and creativity can go a long way! Is it me, or are a whole lot of ex-schoolmates are getting married nowadays! I must be getting old :)
