Dream A Little Dream Of Me

14 Mar

With the world going gaga over web 2.0, it’s becoming common to hear of couples meeting through Facebook or even while playing online games (like Nathan & Hani!). But though we love our social media, it’s always nice to hear of a couple meeting via a traditional route. For couple Brenda & Jason, it was a session of salsa dancing that sparked their romance. Here are their lovely, vibrant pre-wedding photos, courtesy of WGA vendor Fifoto Photography.

Shot at Sekeping Tenggiri, Bangsar.

Sekeping Tenggiri is tucked away in the green suburb of Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur. A quaint, artistic and old house that was built in the 1960s, it has been revamped and converted into two adjoining houses, one into an art warehouse and the other available for rent and homestay.

We love the architecture and interior of the house. Details are not forgotten and even the lamps are made of recycled material, giving it a very rustic and natural feel.

Black and white shots are always a classic. Very film noir!

Love the natural light here. If you’re looking for the best type of lighting – opt for an outdoor shoot and avoid noon when the sun is at its highest. Not just because it’s extra hot (and your make-up will melt), but because the noon light is the harshest and will cast shadows on your face. (more…)

Just Purple At Heart

21 Feb

First of all, I have to say that I absolutely love, love, love this wedding album for a number of reasons (and I’m not just talking about that powerful kiss illustrated above, hehe). How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

Number Eight (because we love auspicious digits): The Bridal Car! How could anyone not do a double take at the sight of a gorgeous Rolls Royce? Classic. And I give this shot bonus points for the matching balloons :)

Number Seven:
The Symbolism. Have you spotted the little winged friends everywhere? The couple use the bird and the butterfly as their own personal symbols, which I thought added a romantic flutter to the festivities.

Number Six: The Unbearable Cuteness. Dig the one-of-a-kind ring pillow, err, nest. Details like this tell you a lot about the bride and groom.

Number Five: The Follow-Through. These two strongly believe in two verbs – laugh and dream. And this winning shot proved it, with everyone sharing a chuckle as wedding dreams came true… (more…)

JuDo’s afterparty at Sultan’s Lounge

Dimitri-in-the-House-of-Lov

Nothing but the best - Bonjour, Dimitri from Paris!

As promised here are the dazzling, snazzling and (censored) photos from the rockin afterparty of Julia & Donovan (JuDo)’s wedding in Kuala Lumpur. Dimitri is an internationally renowned house DJ and (more importantly) a close friend of Donovan. He very kindly flew all the way from Paris to spin some of his favourite beats at Sultan’s for everyone. Since the reception was in the ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental, it seemed only fitting to have the afterparty at the MO bar, Sultan’s Lounge.

The afterparty is that perfect opportunity to let go and boogie around a bit. It’s also opportune time for single guests to mingle (haha)! But if you’re planning an afterparty, try to keep it as close to your wedding reception as possible. Should you have the venue far away from the reception, you will no doubt lose some guests who are lazy (or too drunk!) to drive over.

My tip: Keep your afterparty close, and your guests even closer!!

Guests

Spot the celeb! Do you see WGA writer Fay Khoo?

Why did you decide to hold the afterparty?

JuDo: Because the dinner reception included a lot of family, and there was no alcohol, we wanted to have a celebration where our friends could let loose.

Also, our good friend Dimitri from Paris (the best House DJ in the world), agreed to fly all the way from Paris to play an exclusive 5-hour set for our wedding.

Donovan & Julia

Poised as one of Kuala Lumpur’s ‘weddings of the year’, the union between Donovan Tho (aka Da Funkie Junkie) and his beautiful bride, Julia Nicholson, was so talked about that it’s been featured in the likes of Harpers Bazaar and (woohoo!) Wedding Guide Asia. With a guest list of the who’s who, celebrity performers and an afterparty with one of the world’s best house DJs, I was more than excited to attend the wedding in November last year!

Performances from Malaysian celebrities - Ning Baizura, Jaclyn Victor & Camelia

As a revered house DJ, Donovan called upon some of his friends to sing a song or two at the wedding. Just so happens his ‘friends’ are some of Malaysia’s top soul divas; Ning Baizura, Jaclyn Victor and Camelia! They belted out some awesome love songs that sent the rest of humming and daydreaming of love…

But first things first, where do I begin?

Why with love of course!

"Love is in the air"

Tell us how Judo (Judo = Julia & Donovan) began.

As Don tells it, in a sea of 500 faces, one stood out. He spotted me at Velvet (K.L nightclub), and sent his friend over to talk to me, but didn’t come up to me himself because he was too nervous. He thought I was a tourist and he kicked himself because he didn’t get a phone number nor an email address. (more…)

Fifoto pre-wedding shots from Kuala Lumpur

H&N-117
I always love getting photos from Fiona Lim (Fifoto Photography), because she never fails to surprise me! Fiona is great at taking those classic, romantic pre-wedding photos and then mixing them with a touch of fun and modernity.

Here are some pics from a shoot she did a few weeks back (hot off the press, isn’t it?).

Bride: Hani is from Seremban (Malaysia), and currently works in Johor as a teacher.
Groom: Nathan is an American from Miami, where he works as an engineer.

Can you feel the love? It may seem rare, but Nathan and Hani actually met online! YES, online! Apparently, while playing games on IRC!
So you see ladies, you really never know when, where or how – you will meet ‘the one’.
