How do you add a touch of you to a wedding without breaking the bank looking for originality? That’s a question that many of us try to answer, often in vain, while planning a wedding reception. Though the answer may be different for each and every one involved, Do It Yourself wedding decorations provide a cost effective way to spice up your own reception with a little “you”, especially for couples who can afford the time overhead incurred.

Center of attention
Table centerpieces are often great targets for DIY projects. You can choose from a bewildering array of different ideas to add a splash of life to your reception tables. For instance, you can easily make a floating candle centerpiece from used glasses, some faux flowers and vase candles.

Gift of love
Do consider DIY gift boxes. Recycled old books and magazines can quickly be turned into quaint boxes to hold your wedding gifts. All that’s needed are cardboard, scissors, glue, and some time.
You can also cobble up the gifts themselves, from beads and ribbons for instance. Or maybe a pressed flower bookmark if you’re more of the bookish type.

Also, why not consider making your own wedding pomanders? Pomanders, or kissing balls, are a perfect way to dress up your wedding space. Whether you’re getting hitched in a church or in your own backyard, they can brighten up any space. And you can make your own for super-cheap too.
All you need are some Styrofoam balls, floral wire and some tissues. Yes, tissues.

Light up your way
Traditionally, luminarias are made of votive candles set in paper bags weighted with sand and placed in rows along walkways, driveways, and even rooftops. You can use them in new ways, however – to light paths, a mantel, or a staircase. Because they’re so simple to make, why not use them for your wedding?
You can decorate, punch, or cut designs from lunch-size paper bags to make wedding luminarias quickly and easily. Use bags in colours matching your theme (you can find them at party supply stores) to give your luminarias a matching look. For instant decorating — no embellishments required — use the preprinted themed bags that are often used for holding goodies.
Place one to two inches of sand in the bottom of each paper bag. Nestle a tealight or votive candle into the center of the sand. When you’re ready to use your luminaria, just light the wick.

Keeping memories safe
For a quick and easy wedding card holder, why not consider using a birdcage? It’ll be a unique and enchanting place for guests to drop off their envelopes full of wedding wishes. Just place it on your wedding gift table and voila!
You can customize your birdcages further with your own decorations and maybe even some flowers. Not to mention birdcages come in all sorts of designs and colours to start with.
