I think “just do it” suits a wedding more than Nike, no? *wink*.

Previously known as Events Wizard, Elysium Weddings just celebrated their 10th anniversary in the wedding biz, as wedding planners who are experts at throwing the perfect do, minus the stress! Run by Leticia Hsu and Shirlyn Peh, Elysium weddings has planned just about any type of wedding you can think of – from Malay to Chinese to Indian to the traditional do. Makes you realize it’s not that easy being a wedding planner in Asia – you have to be good at many types of weddings!

Excited to have them join our Little White Book directory, we sat down for a little Q&A:

We love Elysium’s website and its ‘something borrowed, something blue’ theme. With a decade of experience behind you, what are your memorable weddings to date?

All our weddings are memorable, I can actually still tell you all my couple’s names and something unique about each of them. For me the most challenging wedding was a Punjabi & Scottish wedding, which lasted over 1 week and had 1000 of the same guests at each event. We had to impress the guests over and over again!

Weddings are made memorable when the couple enjoys the planning and the journey itself, not just the wedding. As each wedding is different in its own way, we encourage our couples to inject their personality into the weddings, to make it special.

Wedding planning is a mix of creativity and logistics. What are your strengths?

We start by having a chat with the couple to get to know them. Then from there we design a complete schedule of what needs to be done and when. What’s most important is that the couple likes our style, personality and professionalism, because for the next 6 months to a year – we’ll be seeing a lot of one another! Creativity and style is only limited by one’s imagination and to a certain extent, budget. But we believe in trying our best to make a bride’s vision as real as possible.

Our strengths lie in our team, that is efficient, effective and there every step of the way :)

What are your favourite themes to do and why?

An exciting, different and unique theme would be the best to have fun with. We’ve had Moulin Rouge to Shanghai Tang to even a ‘Party Like No Other’.

These themes give everyone (from the designer, the decorator, the planner, the florist etc) something new to stretch our minds with, and give us a chance to get out of the box and away from the norm.

Being a wedding planner also means being a good friend to the bride! How do you handle a bride if she is stressing out before the big day?

Yes, we’ve had our fair share of stressed-out brides, nervous grooms, fidgety parents and flighty bridal party! We handle each situation very carefully, as with brides the stress can come from numerous issues – be it family, the guest list or even the wedding gown. Depending on what the root of the problem is, a bride basically wants a shoulder to cry on and a neutral person to go to for some honest advice. We are there for them and try to find the best solution for everyone.

I’ve even had a bride who could not breathe, just before walking down the aisle!

Nowadays it seems like everyone’s having an afterparty. Do you do this too?

Yes we do! We help the couple with all aspects of the wedding, except matchmaking! What’s even more popular is creating a party room adjacent to the venue so guests don’t have to travel in order to party on. We’ve actually covered up a section of the ballroom without the guests even noticing, to  later reveal as an afterparty club that everyone partied away in till 3am! Of course the champagne helped keep the guests on the dance floor :)

* There you go, for wedding planners who will cover all aspects of your wedding (after the matchmaking, haha), give Elysium weddings a buzz either via their website or WGA page! And for a list of their wedding services click here.

P.S. – On an interesting note, did you know that Leticia is also the President of The Association of Wedding Professionals (Malaysia)  and a member of the Association of Bridal Consultants (America)? Now that’s what we call, credentials ;)
