Picking a wedding theme

| by

Just got engaged? Sweet! Now, the very first thing that you should do as an engaged couple is discuss your wedding theme. Often, the importance of choosing a wedding theme is overlooked due to a common misconception that wedding themes mean big bucks. With a little research and initiative, you too can have a fabulous wedding theme without having to burn a hole in your pocket.

Why is a Wedding Theme Important?

Your theme will be the thread that runs through all your planning decisions, providing structure throughout the whole merriment. Once you come up with a theme, all the other pieces of the puzzle will slowly start to fall into place, making your wedding planning an absolute breeze. Besides that, your theme will help cut out the guesswork and give everyone something to work with.

How do You Incorporate a Wedding Theme?

Celebrity Steph Carrington's Bali Wedding

This is where the fun begins! Start off by beautifully decorating the entryway as it will serve as a visual welcome. After all, this is where your guests will have a first glimpse of the party.

In ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’, Michael O’Neal and Julianne Potter danced on a ferry to ‘their’ song, Tony Bennett’s all-time classic: The Way You Look Tonight. Get inspired by that and try to feature a colour palette or a flower that evokes a cherished memory to both personalize and unify your event.

Don’t disregard minor details because a few well-placed touches can go a long way towards making your party look unique. Go bonkers with centrepieces, save-the-dates, wedding favours, refreshments and even the boutonnieres and corsages. While you’re at it, try to abstain from making everything look too matchy matchy to create that effortless and natural mood.

Possible Themes

It is pivotal to choose a theme that will showcase your individuality, something that you will enjoy and remember for a lifetime. The more you personalize your wedding the more memorable it will be for you and your guests, as long as you do not go overboard make the memories less than pleasant.

Colour palettes – One idea is to pick a colour palette based on your birthstone. Better yet, include your favourite shades or hues.

Exotic themes – Have an Arabian theme and whisk your guests away to exotic Morocco. Excite guests with a hall festooned with velvet draping and stunning chandeliers.

If belly dancers don’t tickle your fancy, spend some time on the net or at the local magazine parlour to get hold of fresh ideas.

There are so many more themes I could talk about (let the imagination run!), but if you have any suggestions or specific themes you’d like us to write about, drop me a line at ezreena@weddingguideasia.com xx
